Day 54 - Pocket Change & Rice...

This week at Hillary Ashton's school they are collecting change for children in Ghana. Pretty cool, huh? On Monday, the kids brought pennies, today they brought nickles, tomorrow is dimes, Thursday is quarter day and Friday is dollar day.
Each day when I pick Hillary Ashton up, she happily reports to me what the kids' in Ghana will get with the money she brought. Yesterday she said, "The school children in Ghana are getting new uniforms!" Today she happily reported, "The children in Ghana are getting new school books and a couple lucky ones will get new lunch bags." How sweet (and sad) is that? The "lucky ones" will get lunch bags. She was so excited to gather up all the dimes she could find tonight to take to school tomorrow. I just love it! I hope this gives her a happy heart for giving and a desire to help others.

My little Sophie Le was needing a good project today so I hauled in the plastic swimming pool from the garage and filled it with as much rice as I could find. Her first reaction when she saw all of the rice was, "Wow! That's a lot of rice and mama, you know I love rice!" Haha! I told her this rice is for playin, not eatin' :o) She had a ball filling up her little cups and bowls....over and over and over and over again!

I texted daddy a picture of the girls playing in the rice pool and he texted back, "Oh crap. What is that?" Haha!

Sophie Le also enjoyed the funnel I found in the garage :o)
Little sister liked the rice too :o)
So serious about her playtime :o)
While the little girls played, Mister Jonah chilled in his recliner and played with his orange elephant :o)
Sophie Le LOVED playing in the rice...This picture was taken around 1:15 p.m. She had been playing for about 15 minutes at this point.
This picture was taken around 2:40 when I had to get her out to go pick up Hillary Ashton from school...still happily playing :o)
As soon as we walked in the door, she & big sister made a bee-line for the rice pool :o)
And yes, Hillary Ashton is holding the funnel with her foot :o) Haha! I think I can safely say, it was a hit with all the kiddos :o)
Not to bad...$3 for hours (and probably days) of entertainment!

Great idea! I love it and will probably do that - I just need to get one of those pools. I hope you are feeling better.
