Day 61 - Dr. Seuss & New Glasses for Hillary Ashton...

We started our day with green eggs (added blue food coloring to the eggs) for breakfast in remembrance of one of our favorite authors, Dr. Seuss. Today is his birthday! We are BIG fans of Dr. Seuss :o)

Sophie Le & Julianne loved the green eggs...
Hillary Ashton was just like the main character in the book, Green Eggs and Ham...she had no interest in trying the green eggs :o) She said, "I don't want them at the bar. I don't want them in the car." Haha!

I had several fun Dr. Seuss crafts for the girls to work on after school today, but we ran out of time so they will have to wait until later this week.

Last Thursday we were in Wal-Mart and I noticed that they have an optometrist that accepts walk-ins. Hillary Ashton had the standard school eye exam a couple months ago and it was good, but I have had a feeling for awhile that she can't see as well as she should. We walked over to the clinic, but unfortunately the doctor wouldn't be back until Tuesday. We have not talked about going to see the doctor since then and I totally forgot about it. When I picked up Hillary Ashton from school today, the first thing she said was, "I think today is Tuesday. I need to get my eyes checked today." After the day I had today, I REALLY just wanted to go home. I wasn't at all prepared to take her to the doctor (you know, snacks and entertainment for the little kids), but I decided not to put it off any longer and we headed to see the eye doctor. I am sooooo glad we did!

Okay, I thought she might need glasses. Oh my goodness, that child couldn't see any of the letters or numbers during the exam!!! I am pretty sure the doctor thought she didn't know her letters or numbers at first. When I told her that in fact Hillary Ashton could read, she looked very surprised. I felt soooooo bad. Her eyesight is much worse that I expected :o( Poor girl! After the exam, the doctor told me that Hillary Ashton needs to wear glasses full-time. We picked out a cute pair of glasses which HAD to be purple :o) When we went to place our order, the tech said they would be ready in a week! After watching her eye exam, I knew she needed glasses TODAY so we headed to a one hour place in town. She was soooooooo excited to get her glasses tonight :o) They are so cute!! They are purple with little jewels on the side :o)

So sweet!
How cute is she?

After she got her glasses, she was amazed at how good she could see :o) She kept saying, "Wow Mama, everything is so BIG!" She also said, "I am so glad I get to see better tonight instead of a week from now." Haha! I was getting the kids ready for bed after we got home and I heard Hillary Ashton in the bathroom talking to herself. I went in and found her looking in the mirror. She would take off of the glasses and say "younger" and then put them back on and say "older." Over and over again! Haha!

She is so excited to wear them to school tomorrow. Her daddy told her that if anyone calls her "four eyes" that means they like her new glasses :o) She thought that was a weird thing for daddy to say...I broke the news to her...her daddy is a little weird...haha!

Btw, the lady that did Hillary Ashton's eye exam is Vietnamese. She told me that Sophie Le does not look Vietnamese. She said Sophie Le looks Cambodian. That is what the Vietnamese shoe lady in Texas told us a few months ago. Isn't that crazy?

Oh my, but she is cute in those glasses!

Why do people feel the need to say that Bex & Sophie Le don't look Vietnamese? Ugh. We get the Cambodian thing all the time.

Seriously! I never know what to say except, "Hmm, well she is." Haha!

I've never heard Cambodian about Loston, but we have Chinese people constantly asking if he's Chinese! The glasses are ADORABLE! I remember the first time I got glasses... I was about Hillary Ashton's age... I bawled! She's much more well-adjusted than I was! Haha!

This child is adorable in those glasses! This style was made just for her! I know how she feels, finally being able to see things. I didn't get my glasses till I was in the 9th grade and I was amazed at everthing I had been missing! I'm so excited for her!

LOVE the glasses. Precious. She is beautiful and her spirit matches that beauty. What a special little lady.

Liam gets the Cambodian thing a lot too. Round face, big eyes. I guess it will be one more thing for them to wonder about when they get older.

People around here in East Texas always think I'm married to a Mexican & my kids are 1/2 Hispanic. Go figure...personally, I don't see it!!! HAHAHA! LOVE the glasses...they are just darling! Tell her she looks older & smarter!!

We have never once gotten Vietnamese either, its always something else. Most common is Korean for both or some type of Hispanic for Avi Joy, I am sure its the curls.
We went to have the kids eyes checked last summer and the Dr. said both would need glasses between 5-7 years old. Weird how they can tell that kind of thing. She does look super cute and I am sure Avi Joy would pick purple too!
