Day 77 - Birth Family Search...

This is my baby riding in the car this afternoon...

The blue album she is looking at is full of pictures of her birth family and their house.

Sophie Le keeps the photo album inside her shoe drawer that is in the backpack cabinet by our back door. When we leave the house, she grabs her shoes and puts them on and grabs her album and runs to the car. When we are riding in the car, she likes to look at the album. She also has a lot of other things she likes to do in the car like have a snack, sing, watch movies, talk to mommy, look out the window, play with her babies. When she is doing those things, she likes to lay the album on the window seal beside her seat to "keep it safe." It makes my heart so happy to she recognizes these pictures are very special.

A few days ago, we had no idea that Sophie Le had another sister living half way around the world...

Today, she excitedly tells me that she is so happy that she has three sisters :o)

I look forward to the day when the two little Le sisters meet for the first time :o)
le's sister

I also look forward to the day when I get to meet this women...
le's bm
This women lives in Vietnam where abortions are very common. This woman made a decision to carry Sophie Le to term even though she knew she would not be able to parent the child growing in her belly. Because of her decision, my life-long dream came true. Because of her decision, our lives are brighter. Because of her decision, Hillary Ashton has the best friend she could ever ask for. Because of her decision, Julianne has a great big sister. Because of her decision, I am eternally grateful. I look forward to the day when she is able to meet the precious, charming, intelligent child she gave birth to...the child she chose to provide a "better" life for.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that we did this search. Honestly, I have thought about Le's mom almost everyday since we started the adoption process five years ago. The day we received Sophie Le's referral, this women's name was revealed to me. On Tuesday, this woman's face was revealed to me. I am so thankful that she knows that Sophie Le is happy and healthy. I am so thankful that she is still at peace with her decision to place Sophie Le up for adoption. I am thankful to know without a shadow of a doubt, that it was HER decision to place Sophie Le up for adoption. My heart hurts for those families that do not have that peace because of the corruption that occurred with many Vietnamese adoptions.

One of my favorite things about doing this search is hearing the questions Sophie Le comes up with :o) Some questions crack me up and other questions really make me think. One of the sweetest questions came today while we were riding in the car...
DSC06095
SL: Mommy, who took these pictures for me?
Mommy: A person living in Vietnam.
SL: Why did they want to take the pictures?
Mommy: Well, Mommy & Daddy sent a message to the person in Vietnam and asked them to take the pictures so you could have them.
SL: Oh...thank you Mommy. I love these pictures. I am glad I have them :o)

Be still my heart...

I have gotten several emails asking me specific questions about our birth family search. I am more than happy to answer all of your questions. If you want to leave a question here, I will answer them here on the blog so other adoptive parents will have access to the information too :o) So...if you have a question, ask away!

I will go ahead and answer my friend Gretchen's question :o) She asked...

"Does Sophie Le's sister look like her?"

YES!!! In fact, we had to convience Sophie Le and Hillary Ashton that it wasn't Sophie Le in the pictures :o) She is BEAUTIFUL!!!

This is so precious, Amy. I would imagine that there is a LOT of emotion involved in finding out these answers and praying about the best way to share everything with sweet Sophie Le??? You have such an amazing family--you're blessed!!! I'm thankful that you have received such valuable information. Her photo album is so neat.

I would LOVE to know how you told the girls when you got the pictures! I came across your video a while ago, with sophie le answering questions about her adoption and her life, and it totally changed the way I looked at adoptions, for the better! I was almost in tears when you showed that picture of sophies sister...and I wondered if you told her right away, or was going to wait until she asked about it when she was older....I would love to know your thoughts on that!!
