Day 158 - Twenty Five & Worksheets...

A big thank you to Mimi Lam for helping Friends of Fanose reach 10% of our goal!!! Yea!! We are right on track to raise the $5000 needed to build a well in Africa!!! I.AM.SO.EXCITED!!!

Because of your donations and because you have helped spread the word, Friends of Fanose has raised enough money to provide TWENTY FIVE people with CLEAN water...Yipeeeeee!

Have I mentioned that WE will be able to SEE the well we are donating money to build? Charity:Water will provide us with pictures, videos and GPS coordinates so we can see it on Google Maps...pretty awesome, huh?

Because of no fault of their own, one BILLION people were born into a world where they do not have access to clean water. Honestly, clean drinking water is something I have always taken for granted. It is hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that one in eight people in this world gather their water like this...

Can you imagine? I do not know if Julianne's family has access to clean drinking water...my baby's sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles. That hurts my heart sooooo much. Even if her family happens to be one of the "lucky" ones, they certainly can probably remember when they didn't have access to clean water. One billion seems like such a HUGE number...what difference will your $5, $10, $20 donation make? I can answer that in one word: HUGE. Your donation (no matter the amount) WILL make a HUGE difference in some one's life. I can guarantee you that this lady...

...would be very happy if YOU could make a donation to help her village build a well. Being a mom, I always look at it in the perspective of the moms in Africa. I just CANNOT imagine serving Hillary Ashton, Sophie Le or Julianne that dirty class of water that women is holding...can you? It breaks my heart to think that SO MANY moms have no other choice. I believe everyone IN THE WORLD should have access to clean, SAFE drinking water.

The thought of drinking water out of a dirty mud puddle sounds disgusting, but really is there any harm? The answer is YES! Here are a few facts about Ethiopia (the place Julianne Fanose spent the first year of her life...the place where her EIGHT sisters and brothers live today)...

80% of illnesses in Ethiopia are the result of dirty drinking water
There is one doctor for every 100,000 people
One in ten children die before their 1th birthday.
One in six children die before their 5th birthday.
The median age in Ethiopia is 17.8.
The average lifespan is 37 years old.
60% of children in Ethiopia are stunted due to malnutrition
Half the children in Ethiopia will never attend school; 88% will never attend secondary school
Ethiopia has the highest HIV/AIDS population in the world
Only 24% of households have access to safe drinking water
82% of the population survives on less than 1 dollar a day
Per capita, Ethiopia receives less aid than any country in Africa

Unfortunately, Ethiopia is not the only country that is suffering without CLEAN drinking water. There are one billion people in many different countries, on several continents dealing with this issue everyday...every single day of their lives. In fact...

4,500 children in the world WILL DIE TODAY because of water related diseases.

Want to help make a difference? You can!!! There are three easy ways to help...

1. Visit the Friends of Fanose page and read about our mission.
2. Visit the Friends of Fanose team on the Charity:Water website to track our progress. If you are able to donate, 100% of your donation will be used to help build a well.
3. "Like" the Friends of Fanose page on Facebook and suggest it to your friends...the more people that KNOW about the need, the better!! If we spread the word, we will be able to meet our goal in no time!

Whew! Haha! Just wanted to get all that out there :o)

My goal is to do a craft everyday this summer (just the weekdays)...eek! I decided to just put my goal out there so I would have some accountability :o) My accountability to you guys is what has helped me post everyday so far in 2010 :o) I am thankful to have our memories documented!!

Today we had MDO and errands to run so we decided to do a quick "craft" this afternoon. I found an AWESOME website a few weeks ago (www.makinglearningfun.com). It has so many great ideas and activities. I haven't even scratched the surface yet!

Hillary Ashton's activity today was a grid worksheet. She has never done one of these before, but she caught on quickly!

The idea is to read the coordinates off of the key and graph them on the the project page. Pretty cool! I think next time I will mark out the word at the top of the page so my kiddo will be surprised :o)
One of the best things about this activity? It keeps them busy for quite awhile :o)

I LOVE that my baby is a leftie :o)

Did you know that only 7-10% of the adult population is left handed? Another interesting fact...66% of America's presidents in the last 30 years have been lefties. Future president? I wouldn't be surprised :o) Haha!

Since Sophie Le has recently discovered a love of dinosaurs, I picked a dinosaur activity for her. First we picked out colors to color each shape...

Then she colored her picture according to the colors we picked. When she was done coloring, she counted how many of each shape were in her dinosaur. She LOVED this activity!

Check out that smile :o) I think this girl is going to LOVE homework one day :o)

Brains and beauty...watch out world :o) Haha!

Yea, Sophie Le!

Her activity went fairly quickly so she also did an alphabet dot to dot worksheet. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how she crosses the first two fingers on her left hand when she is concentrating :o)

Guess what!! Tomorrow is my birthday :o) I am soooooooooooooo excited that me and my babies have the whole day to do whatever we want!!!!!!!!! Yea!!! Just in case I wasn't clear on this fact before, summer break is the BEST! Haha!

I'd like to place my vote now: HA is definitely smart enough to be president but she has far too sweet of a heart for the job!
