Day 291 - School Books, Adoption Books and $1 Shirts!

School Books...
Hillary Ashton brought home two Halloween books yesterday from school...REAL, CHAPTER books. She reads well. She enjoys reading. However, thus far, she has only read books that she could finish in one setting. When I put her in public school (our first experience with public schools) a few weeks ago, I pretty much resigned to the fact that her education would not be quite as good as it was in private school and home school.

So far, I am happy to say that I have been proven wrong! That makes this mommy VERY happy (and relieved!!!). The idea behind bringing home two books is that she "buddy reads" with someone older than herself. In our house, that would be mommy or daddy :o) I have been so impressed at how well she is reading (some very difficult words) and how she is being challenged at school! Praise the Lord! We read Chapter One of Halloween Fraidy Cat last night and Chapter Two this evening. I can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the book, but she is very insistent that we are not suppose to read ahead. Apparently, her teacher has a good control over her class. Another blessing! Haha!

I was not a big reader growing up. I am so thankful that Hillary Ashton enjoys reading and I hope she always does!

Adoption Books...
A friend from church FINALLY got her referral from China a few weeks ago. I met this friend at an adoption information meeting in 2005. It is hard to believe we both started our adoption journeys at the same time and our family has brought home two kids (the last one over a year ago) and she is just getting her referral. I don't know why she has had to wait soooooooooo long to see her baby girl, but I do know that God's timing is perfect. I can't wait to meet the little girl I have been praying for for five years! All this to say, she asked me to bring the book I made for Sophie Le to churh tomorrow. I got it out this afternoon and Sophie Le asked me to read it to her twice and then again after Daddy got home from work :o)

Since I had my camera handly, I took a few pictures to share :o)

Sophie Le calls it her "very special book."
Front cover (those pigtails...ahhhh!)...
A few of the pages...
She just LOVES hearing the story about us coming to pick her up...
The picture of Hillary Ashton touching Sophie Le in the crib is one of my all time favorite pictures. It was taken on the third day we visited her in the orphanage (baby house). This was also the day we got to take Sophie Le with us FOREVER! Hillary Ashton walked straight over to Sophie Le's crib and said, "Sophie Leaf, are you ready to go."
I LOVE (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE) the back cover. I took this picture at our hotel in Ninh Thuan, Vietnam (the town Sophie Le was born). It is soooooooo beautiful there. This is my happy place!

$1 Shirts...
A few years ago, I would have thought you were crazy if you would have told me that I would not only buy my girls clothes at Wal-Mart, but also be so excited about it that I would share it on my blog! Haha! I got all three girls one of these shirts (Hillary Ashton's is white) for only.....$1!!!!!!!!! Whoo hoo!

I love Sophie Le's book! I've been wanting to make a book for Eva but I just thought about doing scrapbooking and I knew that would take forever! I LOVE the digital books that I've made in the past and I'm SO EXCITED to do this for Eva's adoption book. THANKS!
When we decided to adopt a girl my Mom and I kept saying we were going to go broke until we saw all the cute and cheap clothes at walmart! I just posted a picture of Eva in her $6 Halloween jammies! :o)
