Day 315 - Allowance - Give, Save, Spend...

Hillary Ashton started getting an allowance a couple months ago for helping around the house. Vacuuming the crumbs under the table after meals, unloading and loading the dishwasher, watering the plants, feeding Princess Lola, cleaning out her lunchbox, etc... Of course, we don't have to pay her to do chores, but I like teaching her about money and giving her the responsibility of being a good steward.

I have been trying to come up with a way to help her easily manage her allowance. I saw these jars the other day and I LOVED the idea! I didn't want to invest too much in the project so I headed to The Dollar Tree and found these cute little jars...
...and then just used some ribbons and stickers I already had to make them a little more fun :o)

Hillary Ashton gets $5 per week for her allowance. She tithes 10% of her money, saves 25% and is free to spend the remaining 65%. Since she hasn't learned about fractions yet, I put the corresponding amounts on the top of each of the jars.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of attaching little tags to each of the jars...
Give: "For what I believe in..."
Save: "For a rainy day..."
Spend: "For fun..."
Unfortunately I didn't have any cute scrapbooking paper in the house so that will have to wait for another day :o)

Hillary Ashton was soooooo excited to try out her new jars when she got home from school. Btw, I LOVE having a kid that gets excited so easily :o)
She LOVED counting out the money to put in each of the jars...
She was beyond excited to count up how much she "gets
to tithe this Sunday at church :o)
I LOVE her heart!

Great idea with the jars! R gets an allowance, too, but I'm afraid I haven't done a good job teaching him about saving and giving (the spending part comes pretty naturally, I guess!?). I would like to try this approach--thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the great inspiration on these! I know there's lots of versions out there, but these are super cute and I love that you added the amount to add each week on the lid... great reminder!
