Day 317 - Autumn Teasures & Those Boxes...

After church today, we had our favorite lunch at home (baked potato soup...YUM!!!) and then headed to the arboretum trail down the street from our house. The girls LOVE running around the trail, finding "treasures." Each girl had a small red bag to collect their finds :o)

It was a BEAUTIFUL day today to spend with my sweeties!

Sadly, the ring on Sophie Le's finger did not make it home with us, but the leaf did :o)

I cannot believe how big this girl is looking these days!

The Boxes...
As you can imagine, these precious sweet little kiddos in the picture below can make our mornings pretty hectic.

I HATE hectic, rushed mornings. I remember thinking it was a "challenge" to get ready and out of the door by 7:30 a.m. when I was single. HAHAAHAHAHAHA! How crazy. I cannot even imagine just getting myself ready each morning...ahhhhhh, wouldn't that me nice? :o) I am VERY thankful to have each of my kiddos. However, having four to get ready each morning really IS a challenge :o) There is hair to the done, teeth to brush, breakfast to serve, outfits to pick out, matching hair accessories to pick out, shoes to find, socks to put on, backpacks to pack, lunches to assemble, diaper bags to get ready, etc... All of that...times four. I am usually ready for a break by the time we pull out of the driveway at 7:45 a.m. Haha! Did I mention how much I miss home school? Haha

In an effort to make our morning routine smoother and less hectic, I started picking out the kid's clothes the night before and laying them in the hall. This worked pretty good. There was almost always someone who lost their socks (or shoes or bows) while getting ready. We had at least one child meltdown most mornings because they couldn't find something. Also, having two kids that are about the same size usually resulted in a fight about what piece of clothing belong to them :o) It was also a pain to get everything together each night while also getting everyone ready for bed.

Last week, I implemented a new routine in order to try and take control of our morning routine :o) It takes a little bit of time to organize, but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it. First of all, each child has a colored cube for each day of the week (JuJu and Jonah share the green cubes)...

On Sunday afternoon, I (the kids help) pick out everything each child will need for the WHOLE week. I iron everything and put everything (socks, jewelry, underwear, diapers, belts, leg warmers, tights, shirts, sweaters, etc...) in the cubes and then I don't have to think about clothes for the rest of the week...ahhhhhhhhh!

Each child is also able to keep all of their things together and so far (knock on wood), nothing has gotten lost!
I also like this method because it helps to coordinate their outfits :o) It's the little things people! Also I never have to worry about washing a specific item of clothing the night before. If it's not ready on Sunday afternoon, it doesn't get in that week's rotation.

I keep the babies' cubes in their closet...

I bought a cube shelf at Target for the big girls' cubes. It fits perfectly in their bathroom!

The night before, I set each child's cube in the hallway with their shoes...

I LOVE it. We had NO morning meltdowns last week which is a miracle in this house :o)
