Introducing...

Miss Julianne Fanose-Neil
DSC04729

Today was a very special day!!! We received Julianne's signed adoption decree today...whoo hoo! For those who are not familiar with international adoption...the paperwork fun (and expense) can continue for years after you come home with your kiddo :o) We legally adopted Julianne in Ethiopia, but we had to refinalize in our home state. Another purpose of today's decree was to officially changed her name to Julianne! We were sooooooooo thankful that the judge chose to sign our decree without requiring a court hearing (in Fayetteville).

The whole name thing kinda cracks me up. The idea of naming our sweet baby girl "Neil" started out as a joke...or so I thought...haha! Obviously, Daddy wasn't kidding :o) The back story is that when we legally adopted Julianne in her homeland, the court changed her name from "Fanose Hatala" to "Fanose Neil A." Hatala was her birth dad's last name and it is just customary to change the adopted child's name to their adoptive dad's first name as their middle name and same last name.

I guess with a house full of girls, Daddy thought he better take this opportunity to seize a namesake :o) Haha!

We should get her new birth certificate soon and then we will be able to apply for her American citizenship!

YAAAAY!!!! After THREE YEARS, we finally did our recognition and name change. Because Henok came to America for a visit before the adoption, things were finalized in Ethiopia and he became an American citizen upon his next step onto American soil. So, I hadn't really thought much about the "official" name, until I was filling out Anthony's papers and having to write Henok's previous names (which is just the orphanage name). I cried and cried when we got his papers back! haha! WE ARE DONE! All that to say...I'm so happy for you!
