Day 209 - School Shoes & Red Hair...

I have been full speed ahead tying to get everything together for school this Fall...lunch boxes, school supplies, uniforms, clothes, belts, backpacks, paperwork, SHOES. Can you believe school begins in two and a half weeks...eeeek!?!? Where has the summer gone? Anyways, shoes for Sunshine is one of the items that has been challenging...what type of shoes, what color, light up or not, etc. So...I finally decided on a pair of red Toms. Cute...easy to put on (slip on)...matches school plaid and "one for one." Perfect, right?

WRONG...I bought the shoes last Thursday and as I was walking out of the store, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulder...sounds dramatic, but you try shoe shopping with four little nutty people :o) Haha! While we were at the store, I noticed Sunshine was having a bit of trouble getting the shoe on, but I thought, no big deal. When Daddy got home she wanted to try them on for him and she couldn't get them on!! Apparently her foot is just too wide and that child WILL NOT wear anything that is the slight bit uncomfortable, despite advice that the shoes will probably stretch a bit.

So...we are back to the drawing board...and I have to make a return...I HATE making returns!

I am thinking we will go with a back to light up or not...she LOVES light up...but I am just not sure....Hummm....

Did I mention hubby is home?!?!?!?! For a whole week?????? Ahhhhh!

We have spent the last week trying to fit in as many playdates as we can before school starts. Here is a pic from this morning...
Sunshine ran in the room like this and then came back a few minutes later and asked if I had seen a girl named "Erica." She explained that Erica is really cute and has red hair...and that she was hoping to meet her :o) Haha!

Day 205 - Sleeping In...

Daddy had to leave super early {again} this morning so I decided to take advantage of the quite house and do some laundry and downstairs cleaning. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at the clock and it was 8:30 a.m. and I had no babies running around! It seems like we always have somewhere to go, but not today so I decided to let the babies sleep as long as they wanted :o) Finally around 8:45, Little Pumpkin came downstairs...she usually gets up before 7! The two middle babies weren't far behind her, but Sunshine...that is a whole other story. I finally had to wake her up around 9:30...and that is probably because things were getting a bit noisy...I can only imagine what she will be like as a teenager! Ha!

This picture may not seem very significant at first glance, but if you look closer, you will be an insight into Little Pumpkin.
See that polka dot hat? She sleeps in it every night. Why? I am not quite sure. However, I do have my theories. When she takes it off after breakfast each morning, the hat takes it's place under her pillow..with two small pine cones inside.

She also LOVES to have containers with smaller items inside...hence, the teapot with small wooden pizza toppings. She also likes to have things lined up...bear, teapot, drink. Less than 10 seconds after I took this picture, she had her wheat chex lined up in a straight line.

That girls had definite ideas about how she likes things.

I don't know why Baby Boy is sitting on the table. He pretty much gets to do whatever he wants around here...I guess being the only boy has some advantages :o)

When we were at the library a few days ago, the girls each picked out a book about their birth country :o) I LOVE they have such pride in where they come from...I hope it last forever!
Thanks for the nice comments about Sweet Pea's hair! I really like it too and I am so excited it has turned out to be easy to maintain! Since we didn't leave the house today, I didn't do anything to it and it still looked good! She will go to MDO tomorrow, so I retwisted it tonight. I LOVE it!

Little Pumpkin LOVES learning about Vietnam. Right now, her favorite thing about Vietnam is that they grow lots of rice there...she LOVES looking at the pictures of the ladies/men in the rice fields picking rice :o) She always says, "When I go to Vietnam, I am going to eat lots of Vietnamese rice." Haha! That girl LOVES some rice!

Day 204 - Water Balloons & Ethiopian Hair...

I think a little weekend wrap-up is in order :o) I haven't posted since Thursday! Whoa! I have to admit, I am kinda liking the "post whenever you want" thing...who'd thought? Haha!

So, last Friday, Ganny and Papa Texarkana came up for another doctor's appointment. Please keep my dad in your prayers...he had to have a little "tune-up" a few weeks ago and in the process, the doctors found another "tune-up" that needs to be taken care of...praying it can be taken care quickly with no more "complications!" Of course, the kids LOVE having their grandparents in matter what the circumstances :o)

I mean, who else gives you money to throw away in vending machines? Ha!

While we waited for them to get out of the doctor's appointment, we stopped by the park for a few minutes (a few minutes is about all you can do in Arkansas during the summer!).

Daddy has been traveling quite a bit with work lately. The girls were SO happy to have him home this weekend (Mommy was pretty happy too!).

Saturday morning, I filled up some water balloons and the girls LOVED them!
I LOVE this girl so much...
I hope she never changes!
Little Pumpkin thought the whole thing was just hilarious...and I don't think she got a drop of water on herself!
Thank God for little girls!

Last night after baths, I decided to try something new with Sweet Pea's hair...I have not much luck fixing her hair since it has gotten longer. I have pretty much done piggie tails for a ponytail everyday for the last month! One of the Ethiopian ladies I met in Texas showed me how she fixes her nine year old's hair...twisting. I decided to twist it before bedtime and hoped for the best this morning :o) It seems like I always try new things on Saturday nights which can make getting ready for church Sunday mornings quite interesting...haha! Luckily, I think it turned out great!! Definitely a new 'do for Sweet Pea!
The back...

I have also decided to have her sleep (and take naps) in a sleep hat to help cut down on the tangles. She LOVES her sleep hat :o)

Day 201 - Balloons & Mud...

Another HOT summer day here in Central thankful for these "ordinary" days with my babies! I know they will be grown before I know it and I am trying my best to cherish each day...although, if I am being honest, I am not sure I will be too sad to see Sweet Pea turn four next year...THREE has always been a hard year in our house for some reason. It is almost like a switch flips at their third birthday party! Crazy! I have always heard "terrible twos," but I will take two over three any day! In fact, I like two...two is one of my favorite years :o)

Today we went to MDO at our church. While I was with my four year olds in the playroom, I looked out the huge windows across the back wall and saw this...

That would be Sunshine's class having a fun, water day!! They were having a balloon fight! Well, I say "fight," but I never saw Sunshine throw a single balloon. Instead, she would run over to the balloon stash, grab one out, hold it above her head and squeeze! Haha! I asked her this afternoon if she threw any of the balloons at her friends and she said, "I threw one, but I saved the rest to throw at myself. You know I really like getting wet." Haha! Yes, she does!

When we walked out to door of our church after MDO, we were pleasantly surprised to see an ice cream truck giving out free ice cream! Whoo hoo! The girls were so excited. {Baby Boy was already eating a sucker so we skipped an ice cream for him...he didn't seem to mind.}

Each evening, I water the flowers outside with a water hose. Baby Boy always comes out with me and keep me company (and attempts to eats sticks, rocks, leaves, etc...are all boys like that?}. The end result is usually a muddy little boy :o) He LOVES getting washed off in the kitchen sink afterwards!

Another thing he LOVES to do is swing/hang on the treadmill...
He looks just like a little man in that picture!

Daddy is coming home tomorrow {for a couple days}!!! I am SO thankful...I don't like being a single is HARD work!

Day 200 - Wildlife, Clothes, Hair & Glasses...

This post will be full of random thoughts/pictures...what's new? Ha!

For the last few weeks, these beautiful animals have been coming to our yard each morning for breakfast. They are surprisingly very comfortable around people...I got pretty close to get these pictures...if fact, I was the first to run...not them :o) Who knew deer made a hissing noise? Not me!

Daddy is out of town AGAIN this week (boooooooooo!) so I have been checking some "busy work" off my checklist to help pass the time. I cleaned out all of the girls' closets, shoes, drawers and toys. That is always an exciting job...yea, right! I decided to combine the little girls clothes since they are pretty much wearing the same size now...their clothes still take up two closets, but they are organized together...Little Pumpkin's closet has all of their shirts, pants and shorts...Sweet Pea's closet has all of their outfits and dresses.

This is the first time I have wondered whether or not I should save or donate the clothes the girls have outgrown...hmmmmm. I texted hubby and he said we should probably hang onto them :o) No arguments here :o) Haha! We have been so blessed that the little girls' have been able to wear so many of Sunshine's handmedowns. Each season, we buy fill in pieces and they get clothes for holidays, but for the most part they are able to wear clothes we already have...hallelujah! It is really neat to have pictures of all three girls wearing the same this dress...I have always LOVED this dress and I can vividly remember each girl wearing it! It definitely pays to buy "nicer" clothes when you want to use them again!

I "finger brush" Sweet Pea's hair daily, but the big comb thru only happens about once a month. The morning after the big detangle is always interesting. Here is one of our newest hair adventures :o) She LOVED it :o)

If you recall, new glasses for Sunshine has been on our to-do list...we finally got that checked off yesterday!! She picked out a blue/gold pair...
...and a pink/gold pair...
She tells anyone in ear-shot that we got "two pairs for $99 in an hour or less." Haha! I think someone has been watching too much tv!

And a random one of Baby Boy...he can now wear the same size shoe as Little Pumpkin! He LOVES putting on Little Pumpkin's crocs when we go outside...haha!

Day 197 - Feet & Shoes...

Great Sunday. I LOVE going to church with my family. We are blessed to live in a country where we can do that...I hope I never take that for granted.

After church, we went out for pizza, then stopped by the store for a few groceries and then home to enjoy a nice, lazy afternoon together.

Sunshine is still LOVING her ipod looks like Baby Boy kinda likes it too :o)
Could they be any sweeter?

And just for documentation purposes...Sweet Pea's foot is officially bigger than Little Pumpkin's foot...ha! My sweet Vietnamese girl is going to be a small one :o)

I am also happy to report that I completed my school clothes shopping list for Sunshine's this afternoon...whoo hoo for Gymbucks!!! Next up...glasses, shoes & supplies. I cannot believe school starts in a month! suggestions?

Day 196 - My Wild Haired Girl & My Dirty Boy...

Saturdays are ah-maz-ing! It sure would be nice if we had more than one each week :o)

We decided to go out for breakfast this I was getting the kiddos ready, I was thinking we would be going through the drive-thru and eating in the car. However, when we pulled up to Chick-Fil-A, hubby pulled into a parking spot and the kids started squealing in anticipation of playing in the play area. I mean, seriously, what was I thinking? Of course, we would be going why, oh why, did I not do the girls' hair? Akkkk! I keep extra bows on my sun visor so I stuck one in each of the big girls' hair and they looked fine. My Sweet Pea is a whole different story. She has awesome hair...big, awesome hair. There is no sliding by with her hair. I felt kinda weird about taking her in the restaurant with her morning, wild hair, but what choice did I have? I just told myself, "it's Saturday morning...who cares?"

The first person we saw in the play area said, "Wow, she has such...pretty hair. I bet it is really hard to fix." I couldn't help but laugh. That my friends, was good Southern manners in all their glory. Ha! Granted, Sweet Pea does have pretty hair, but I'm sure the lady was thinking something more along the lines of, "Wow, she has some pretty wild hair. You need to learn how to fix it. " Haha!

I am probably being to harsh, right? Surely, I am exaggerating? Haha! Well, this is Sweet Pea's hair on a typical morning...
You be the judge...Ha!
Lesson matter what the situation is, I need to take time to put her hair up.

After breakfast, we spent an hour or so doing our new favorite activity...geocaching!! Sunshine and I got out to find a cache in the common area of our old neighborhood and just as we were getting close to where I think the cache is, the sprinklers came on! We were surround by shooting water...we left without our cache...and soaked! We will have to try that one again soon. Sweet memories :o) If you haven't geocached before, you need is fun, fun, fun! We are still in the learning stage {we haven't found several of our intended caches yet}, but the hunt is so exciting!

Next on the list...a stop by Wal-Mart for some drinks. A new pair of glasses for Sunshine is on our to-do list before school starts so we stopped by the vision department on our way out for a quick look...
Unfortuntely, the selection was pretty limited...ha!

Another one of our favorite activities is going to the library. The girls LOVE checking out books. Sunshine has really developed a love of learning over the last year and I am SO thankful! I never really liked reading growing up, but I do now.

I checked out a book I have been wanting to read for quite sometime...

I thought I had a pretty good idea about each girls' love language, but after reading a few chapters....I think I may need to make some adjustments. Do any of you parent according to love languages?

After it cooled off a bit tonight {down to the mid 90s...ha!}, we went outside and the kids had a ball with their new water squirters!
Little sisters vs. big sister!
This is Baby Boy's favorite activity...
That is usually the first thing he runs to when we are outside and he will usually play in that little puddle of water for as long as I will let him!

Dirt on hands, face, feet, legs, shirt, head, shoes, arms, shorts...successful playtime :o)

Oh weekend, please slow down!

Day 195 - TGIF...

It's FRIDAY...whoo hoo! I haven't this excited to see the weekend in a long time!

We finished up a great week of VBS today. We had a great turnout this year...over 1100 kids enrolled...I feel like most of those were kindergartners...haha {that is the age I worked with}!

I am thankful each one of my kids had a good week, made lots of great memories {and tons of crafts!} and most importantly learned more about Jesus!

Little Pumpkin was so proud that she smiled for all of her pictures this week :o) Of course, we always get great pictures of her at home, but church has always been a different story! She is ALWAYS making a very sour face in her church pictures...always! I talked to her about it quite a bit last week and I am SO PROUD she smiled for all of her {craft} pictures!! We may be turning a corner!! Yay Little Pumpkin!

Tonight was VBS family night. The girls were SO EXCITED Daddy got home just in time for the program! One thing that has always surprised me about Little Pumpkin is how much she likes to sing on stage. She LOVES it...she has been so excited all week!

Sunshine with her group!

Sweet Pea had a good time playing with her little buddy during the program :o)

Day 194 - Buying Happiness & Pixie Dust...

We finished up Day 4 of VBS today. I am loving the precious time I have been able to spend with the {very} energetic kindergartners this week, but I can't say I am sad tomorrow is our last day :o) And as much fun as my kids are having this week, I know they will also be relieved to have some down time next week.

When we got home this afternoon, I found this on my doorstep...

I know they say money can't buy happiness, but this is one instance that I would have to disagree...

That, my friends, is happiness in a box. Ha!

If you don't have little girls, I don't think you will ever be able to appreciate the goodness of MJ. I just LOVE {LOVE, LOVE, LOVE} the designs, the fabrics {oooooo, the fabric is just SO soft!}, the colors and the variety! I LOVE that it is cute, but not matchy, matchy. It has a definite "funky" vibe going on.

However, on the other hand, there is the price...which isn't so sweet, and nice and wonderful...unless they are having their annual HUGE SALE!!! Whoo hoo! I got word of the annual sale {which I missed last!} last Thursday while I was working MDO at church. I knew the selection would be pretty limited by the time I got home from work so I took a big leap of faith and called hubby at work and did my best to explain the importance and significance of the sale :o) Luckily, it didn't take too much convincing, in fact I think I had him and "60% off." Ha!

Have I mentioned lately how incredibly great my hubby is? Well, he is...and not just because he placed TWO orders for me last Thursday morning...ha! He picked out 4 dresses, 2 pairs of pants, 1 shirt and 1 skirt....all by himself and I think he did a great job!! Yay!

The pants are in a separate order and I can't wait to see them...hopefully tomorrow!!!

Tonight when I went to put the girls to bed, I found this on their door...

And this sitting on the floor beside their bunkbeds (made out of the Matilda Jane box)...

Can I just tell you how incredibly blessed I am to have a girl going into second grade that totally and completely believes Tinkerbell will visit her tonight?

I am sure Tinkerbell will be very impressed with the awesome house complete with comfy sofa, "ride" and clothes Sunshine set out for her :o)

I just LOVE the letter she wrote...

"Dear Tinkerbell,
I am one of your biggest fans. You have always been my favorite fairy in the world. I love you! My wishes are that I could stay with you forever and also my friend Annie West could come to Pixie Hollow with you. We have been planning it all day long. I do not want to go without Annie West. If you cannot take us, please leave a note and some pixie dust. I really want to go.
Love, Hillary Ashton
{This is my favorite part!} Also, take my sis, she is right under my bed (they have bunkbeds).
P.S. I go by both names at the bottom (haha!)."

I may like the contents of the box now even more now than when it arrived earlier this afternoon :o)
